Thanks

Tea leaves boil -
high above the mountain
ascetic smiles;

new day beckons
kept in wraps by prayers
silent blessing.

The haiku set is inspired by Carpe Diem.

  4. I stayed with Monks in the mountains of Japan where they like Majong and in Tibet where they loved ping-pong.

    1. ping-pong & Majong are some drinks / game or what ?

    2. Ping-pong is a table game with a small ball ("table tennis") and Majong is a board game (having similar traits to Bridge, the card game). Just wanted to put a realistic view of these "mystics". The life of many in the monasteries are filled with more flavor than idealized visions allow us, I'm afraid. I was just trying to put that in fun terms.

      Indeed, I have had many a fun game of table tennis with monks on the Tibetan plateau.

      BTW, I just learned a neat trick: If you highlight a word, then hit the right click on your mouse, you can search the word on the web and learn instantly what it is instead of asking the writer to explain in another comment. I use it all the time now.

  9. Nice set of haiku Nimue ... I love the acrostic choice and the theme tea. The haiku by Issa (meaning: cup of tea) you have used very well for your inspiration. Thank you for sharing this masterpiece on Carpe Diem.

  19. I am so used to 'Ku of the 5-7-5 variety - it stops me when I encounter Haiku of other sorts. That said, I like what I have seen here. Thank you, for linking in. :)
